Training Course on ‘The Application of the OIC/SMIIC Standards on OSH’

Within the framework of the OIC-OSHNET Work Plan 2021-2022, the Directorate General of Occupational Safety and Health (DGOSH) of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of the Republic of Turkey, in its capacity as the Secretariat of the OIC Occupational Safety and Health Network (OIC-OSHNET), organised a Training Course on “The Application of the OIC/SMIIC Standards on OSH” on 21-23 June 2021 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training course aimed to shed light on the importance of the OIC/SMIIC General Guidelines on OSH Standards and provide insights into relevant technical subjects such as general OSH requirements, physical and biological factors, risk assessment, safe working at height, personal protective equipment, and ergonomics.

During the opening session, H.E. Mr. Cafer UZUNKAYA, Director General of the DGOSH, H.E. Mr. İhsan ÖVÜT, Secretary General of the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC) and Mr. Fadi FARASIN, Assistant Director General of SESRIC addressed the participants attending from the OSH Authorities of 14 OIC member countries.

In his speech, Mr. Fadi FARASIN, Assistant Director General of SESRIC, stressed the importance of the “OIC/SMIIC General Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health” that were developed as a joint effort by the national OSH Authorities of the OIC member countries and the relevant OIC institutions namely, SMIIC and SESRIC under the umbrella of OIC-OSHNET. He also stressed that SESRIC, in its capacity as the Technical Coordinator of the OIC-OSHNET, is closely monitoring the activities implemented within the framework of the OIC-OSHNET Work Plan 2021-2022 and expressed the appreciation of the Centre to the Secretariat for its commitment and continuous support to the Network and its activities.

The OIC-OSHNET is an OIC platform established to create closer cooperation among the national OSH Institutions of the OIC member countries through sharing knowledge, experience and best practices. In its fourth meeting held in October 2020, two important documents of the Network; “Rules of Procedure” and “OIC-OSHNET Work Plan 2021-2022” were adopted to ensure the effective functioning of the Network.
