Training Workshop on ‘Developing Strategies on Mainstreaming OSH into Education Systems’
Within the framework of the OIC Occupational Safety and Health Network (OIC-OSHNET) and in line with the OIC-OSHNET Work Plan 2021-2022, SESRIC, in its capacity as the OIC Technical Coordinator of the OIC-OSHNET, provided facilitation and necessary technical support for the Training Workshop on “Developing Strategies on Mainstreaming OSH into Education Systems” which was organized by the Directorate General of Occupational Safety and Health (DGOSH) at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of the Republic of Türkiye, in its capacity as the Secretariat of the Network, on 25-26 October 2022 through an online video conferencing platform. The training workshop aimed at promoting a safety culture in the OIC region by developing strategies for mainstreaming OSH into education systems through sharing knowledge, experiences and best practices among the national OSH institutions of the OIC Member Countries. The training also focused on how national education systems in the OIC Member Countries may include safety and health-related subjects and incorporate them into the curricula. The training workshop commenced with the opening remarks of Mr. Selçuk YAŞAR, Head of the International Cooperation Unit at the DGOSH of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of the Republic of Türkiye. Mr. YAŞAR started his speech by thanking SESRIC and the European Network Education and Training in Occupational Safety and Health (ENETOSH) for their invaluable cooperation and contribution to organizing this important training workshop. He also briefed the participants about their close partnership with the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye in delivering OSH training at various levels of education and their initiatives for OSH classes to be made mandatory in schools and universities at the national level. In his remarks, Mr. Onur ÇAĞLAR, Director of the Training and Technical Cooperation Department at SESRIC, emphasized the importance of developing policies and strategies for integrating OSH into education systems in the OIC Member Countries and ensuring effective communication and collaboration among the relevant national authorities as well as the international institutions working in this field. He also emphasized the significance of the OIC-OSHNET, the only OIC cooperation forum in the field of OSH, and its relevant thematic area that focuses on developing and fostering OSH culture in the OIC Member Countries. Before concluding his remarks, he thanked DGOSH of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of the Republic of Türkiye for their continuous support to the Network and its activities. The OIC-OSHNET was launched in 2011 in order to establish closer cooperation among the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Institutions of the OIC Member Countries through sharing knowledge, experience and best practices. SESRIC assumes the role of the OIC Technical Coordinator of the OIC-OSHNET and carries out a specific capacity building programme on OSH, namely, Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building Programme (OSH-CaB), to support the efforts of the OIC Member Countries in improving workplace safety and health.
