SESRIC Organised the Training Workshop on ‘The Role of Routine Inspections in Preventing Hazards’ for the benefit of OIC African French-Speaking Member Countries
Within the framework of the SESRIC’s Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building Programme (OSH-CaB) and in line with the OIC Occupational Safety and Health Network (OIC-OSHNET) Work Plan 2021-2022, SESRIC organised a Training Workshop on “The Role of Routine Inspections in Preventing Hazards” on 29-30 November 2022 through an online video conferencing platform. The training workshop was delivered by competent experts from the Tunisian Occupational Health and Safety Institute (TOSHI) under the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Tunisia for the benefit of 83 experts and executives from the national OSH authorities and relevant national institutions of 13 OIC African French-Speaking Member Countries. The training workshop aimed at providing insights into regular workplace inspections to ensure workers' safety and health and prevent workplace incidents, injuries, and illnesses. Participants had a better understanding of the worldwide standards for assessing occupational health hazards as an outcome of the training workshop. The training also focused on relevant technical aspects regarding the process of hazard identification, occupational risk assessment and control. The training workshop commenced with the opening remarks of Mr. Onur ÇAĞLAR, Director of the Training and Technical Cooperation Department at SESRIC. Mr. ÇAĞLAR began his speech by thanking the Tunisian Occupational Health and Safety Institute (TOSHI) for its valuable cooperation with SESRIC in delivering the relevant technical sessions of the training workshop and sharing the vast expertise of Tunisia in this important domain. He stated that workplace inspection is a crucial component of a successful management system for occupational safety and health. He also stressed that well-conducted routine inspections at the workplace highly contribute to reducing the risk of disease and injury from working activities. In his welcoming remarks, H.E. Prof. Habib NOUAIGUI, Director General of the Tunisian Occupational Safety and Health Institute (TOSHI), expressed his gratitude to SESRIC for its valuable cooperation with TOSHI in the organisation of this training workshop. He also underlined the importance of conducting regular inspections at the workplace in order to establish a safe work environment. Before concluding his remarks, he thanked the participants for their interest in this training workshop and expressed the hope that it would be helpful for each one of them. The OIC-OSHNET was launched in 2011 in order to establish closer cooperation among the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Institutions of the OIC member countries through sharing knowledge, experience and best practices. SESRIC assumes the role of the OIC Technical Coordinator of the OIC-OSHNET and carries out a specific capacity building programme on OSH namely, Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building Programme (OSH-CaB) to support the efforts of the OIC member countries in improving workplace safety and health.
